Vintage and Craft

There’s a current trend for finding vintage alternatives for everything, and having visited a few Wedding Fayres lately, Button Bouquets have caught my eye.  Although there can be nothing more lovely than the smell of fresh flowers, these bouquets are gorgeous – put together using vintage buttons and ribbons and they can be enjoyed long after flower versions have have dried up.

Check out Elizabeth Button Bouquets – what do you think?

What’s New at Tudor Rose Patchwork

Latest News from Tudor Rose Patchwork in Oakley, Beds

“First, the January Sale went really well. We were pleased, and so were those of you who came in to take advantage of the many specials we had running. FINALLY, we had a winter sale that wasn’t snowed out. It also brought in a number of new customers along with some very old customers who came back for the first time in years. It was fun to meet these people. We hope they’ll become regulars!

Secondly, we have a number of new part-time staff members who have either started or are about to start work in the shop. We have two “Saturday girls” who will be swapping off working in the shop on … Saturdays, believe it or not. They are Cayleigh Hawkins and Charlotte Furneaux. Both of them are students at Sharnbrook who would like to get some work experience. Cayleigh’s already done two Saturdays, and Charlotte will be starting this month. Another one from Sharnbrook is Sam See – he working on Sundays and it is nice to have a Sunday boy around. Please give them a warm welcome – and bear with them as they learn the ropes. Also starting this month are Fliss Lovegrove and Sally Peryer. Some of you will know Fliss because she’s been on quite a few courses and some clubs at the shop. Sally has been working in the textile area for a many years, most recently at the Singer Sewing Centre. She will bring a welcome infusion of fabric knowledge. Again, please welcome them to the shop.

Clubs and Courses

We’re pleased to be able to tell you that a new Beading Club is starting at the shop. Sylvia Fairhurst will be tutoring for this club which will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Sylvia will be available between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. to help you with any questions about technique or with that knotty problem you’re having with a pattern. The rest of the day will be for you to work on your projects – and hopefully putting the advice Sylvia has given you to good use! There will be, naturally, tea, coffee and biscuits available all day. Sylvia will also bring along her beads and kits for you to peruse. The price is £13 for the day and there are only a couple of places left. Unfortunately we cannot accept casual bookings for this club.

We’re also happy that Helen has agreed to fill an unexpected gap in our Saturday workshops on May 26 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. It’s a Bag Day. It’s a Beginner’s Quilting Day. It’s a UFO (Unfinished Objects) Day. Helen will work with you on whatever project you would like to do. She’ll also help anyone who’s new to patchwork to get up and running in the craft. This is an opportunity to make the most of Helen’s huge experience in all facets of threadcraft. The cost for the day is £30. Book soon!

We’d also like to suggest that you look at Jenny Jone’s Roman Blinds Day on Saturday, April 28. Roman blinds look great but are a little tricky to get perfect. Jenny’s expertise and trick and techniques will help you to get it right first time. This would be well worth your time.

Also – if you have a project waiting to be quilted and just can’t find the confidence to start, have some practice at quilting – Machine Quilting for the Quivering on Thursday 17 May with Helen Coverley.

And finally in this section, Kathleen Laurel Sage has a workshop on Saturday, April 21 in which you’ll make large butterfly tassels. Like all of Kathleen’s workshops, this will be both informative and entertaining – and you will definitely learn something new!

New Products

Do you have problems cutting straight with the “standard” rotary cutters? Do you find that you can’t really apply pressure evenly along the length of the cut? Well, we think we have the answer. We’ve received stocks of the new TrueCut cutters and rulers. Our staff have become rapid converts because they’re so much easier to use and get it right first time. We suggest you come in and have a look. The staff will be only too happy to demonstrate.

And, in the fancy yarn department, we have three new products coming in towards the end of the month. One is the new Rico Can Can Disco yarn. We will have this in all eight colours. It’ll be interesting, so if you’re a needle fanatic come in and see what you think. The next is a new scarf yarn from Wendy called Rococco. It’s a scarf yarn, available in black, silver and gold and when knitted up has a scalloped edging with tiny sequins. One hank of yarn = 1 scarf. Aren’t these scarf yarns fun? And last but not least we will be getting in six colours from the range of Patons 100% Cotton DK with more colours coming. This yarn is silky smooth and can be used for knitting or crochet. Definitely worth a look.

Plus, we have some new beads – spikey and soft. Brilliant colours and a little unusual.

We hope that you all have a fantastic spring and summer and that we’ll see you in the shop – either physically or on-line – in the near future!”

Regards

The staff at Tudor Rose Patchwork
