Framing Space 13 October – 3 November 2012 This is an exciting exhibition brought to Artworks MK by liminal (Gail Baxter, Sue McLaggan, Carol Quarini and Beth Walsh), who are a group of textile designers whose practice has developed from hand-made lace. Framing Space will seek to engage the public with a selection of original and challenging works, wall-based to wearable, using materials varying from net curtains to paper yarn and metal wire.
To coincide with our Heritage Craft project, liminal will be hosting a programme of free events on Saturdays throughout the exhibition. These events are free as they form part of our Heritage Craft programme. Places are limited so please call to book: 01908 608108 or check our website for more information.
Framing Space Preview Sat 13th October , 1 – 3pm Come and join us for the launch of our new exhibition, Framing Space. This exciting exhibition presents original and challenging works by contemporary textile designers. We hope to see you there.
Cloth of Stitch Day School with Beth Walsh Sat 20th October, 10 – 4 pm This workshop will introduce participants to needlelace stitching allowing them to create exciting fabrics that involve contrasts of texture, colour and medium. This is a creative workshop allowing participants of any experience to create their own fabric made of stitches, perhaps using found objects or creating pieces on a large scale.
Bobbin Lace Demonstration and ‘meet the artists’ with Gail Baxter and Carol Quarini Sat 27th October, 1pm Join Gail Baxter and Carol Quarini for demonstrations and discussions of their work.
Needle-Lace Demonstration by Beth Walsh and Sue McLaggan Sat 3rd November, 1pm Join Beth Walsh and Sue McLaggan for a Lace demonstration. Historic Lace in Contemporary Design talk by Beth Walsh Sat 3rd November, 3pm Lace is usually associated with the skills and fashions of the past. How then is it relevant to contemporary design? This talk will explore the use of historical lace designs in new ways and in new contexts. It looks at how traditional lace techniques and attributes are used in challenging and innovative ways, in fashion, architecture and exhibition pieces. In a more specific textile context, the inclusion of colour as well as other media and textile techniques, together with the distortion of pattern and scale, is examined by looking at examples of Beth’s work. Lace is not of the past – it can be an exhilarating part of the present.

Bromham Millers have secured new funding to provide business support for people looking to turn a hobby into a business.
Their Business Basics courses have been a phenomenal success in the past so we are delighted to hear that they have funding to support more people to set up in business.
If you, or anyone you know is unemployed you may be eligible for full funding – supported by JCP. Others are welcome to join the programme for a small fee.
The programme will start in November and cover all the basics you need to shape your business idea – and there is lots of time for practical one to one guidance and help.
Interested? Please get in touch and we’ll talk about your ideas and tell you how we can help.
Please forward this information to anyone who may be interested.
Don’t forget to let them know where you heard about the courses!
Corner Pocket Tutorial from Laurraine Yuyama:-
‘Using corner pockets is my favourite method of hanging a mini quilt or wall-hanging besides having loops and a rod as part of the finished design. It is super easy, very functional and uses minimal hanging hardware on the wall. It has come to my attention lately that not everyone knows this little hanging trick so today I am happy to share it with all of you.’

There will be no workshop but Sue will be on hand to help with any problems you might have.
